Echo Actor Vincent D’Onofrio Chooses Two Marvel Heroes To Kill Kingpin

Vincent D’Onofrio, returning as the feared crime lord Kingpin in the new Disney+ series ‘Echo’, speculates on who could potentially defeat his character.

As Marvel fans await the release of the Disney+ series ‘Echo,’ Vincent D’Onofrio, reprising his role as the Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, recently sat down with Jake Hamilton for an interview interview. D’Onofrio considered the possible scenario of Kingpin’s defeat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and revealed the two heroes who would kill him.

During the conversation, Hamilton asked D’Onofrio which Marvel character he believed could realistically challenge Kingpin. While expressing skepticism about Kingpin’s potential demise, D’Onofrio named two superheroes who might pose a threat:

“This is a very difficult question because I don’t see that happening. I don’t see Kingpin dying. Kingpin never died in the canon of the comic book. So, that’s very difficult. I’ll talk in terms of who could come close to it — I think that would have to be either Daredevil or Spider-Man. Or the two of them together, maybe. But I don’t see Kingpin going away. He never did when I was a kid, so I don’t expect he will now.”

Details About the Upcoming Series ‘Echo’

‘Echo’ is set to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024. It marks the tenth television series in the MCU and follows the events of ‘Hawkeye (2021).’ The series centers on Maya Lopez/Echo, played by Alaqua Cox, as she grapples with her past and reconnects with her Native American roots.

The cast includes other names, such as Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, and Charlie Cox, alongside D’Onofrio.

Filming for ‘Echo’ took place across various locations in the Atlanta metropolitan area, with Marion Dayre serving as the head writer. The series promises to offer a fresh perspective in the MCU, being the first Marvel Studios series to receive a TV-MA rating and to release all episodes simultaneously.

Kingpin’s Role in ‘Echo’

In ‘Echo,’ D’Onofrio’s character Wilson Fisk emerges with a new eyepatch following the events in ‘Hawkeye.’ This detail pays homage to a storyline in the comics where Fisk was temporarily blinded. The series is expected to explore the relationship between Fisk and Lopez, with D’Onofrio hinting at a tense ‘father-daughter’ relationship:

“I think that he goes through a lot trying to get her back, no matter what she’s done to get away from him. And I think that it ends up being a kind of very father-daughter trepidatious period for them, to say the least. And it gets very intense. It gets emotionally violent and physically violent.”

Created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., Kingpin made his debut in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man #50’ in 1967. Originally introduced as an adversary for Spider-Man, Kingpin has since evolved into a key antagonist for characters like Daredevil and Punisher, and more recently, Echo.
