‘Echo’s Alaqua Cox Admits Vincent D’Onofrio Would Scare Her On The Set

Alaqua Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio share various scenes in ‘Echo,’ and it seems some of them scare Cox.

In a recent interview with Marvel.com, Alaqua Cox opened up about working alongside Vincent D’Onofrio and admitted that some of their scenes would make her feel scared.

When talking about working with D’Onofrio, Cox said there were many valuable insights she gained from him. The actress then revealed that she found his performance as Kingpin intimidating, and she even felt scared during some of their more intense scenes together:

“When we have scenes together, even the intense scenes, I, myself being Alaqua, felt scared of him when he would yell — I could feel the vibrations of his voice because of how loud he was acting.”

Despite the on-screen tension, Cox noted the actor’s off-camera kindness, saying:

“But honestly, off camera, he’s one of the nicest men ever. I really loved and appreciated working with him.”

What is ‘Echo’ About?

As the latest MCU series, ‘Echo’ was simultaneously released on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024. Starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, the show is a spin-off of the 2021 series ‘Hawkeye.’ It is also a part of the MCU’s Phase Five and marks the first under the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner.

With ‘Echo,’ D’Onofrio returns to his role as Fisk/Kingpin. Viewers follow Maya Lopez as she reconnects with her Native American roots and battles past traumas while also confronting Fisk.

In the same interview with Marvel, the show’s executive producer, Richie Palmer, touched upon the emotional value that D’Onofrio brings to Fisk, especially in his interactions with Maya:

“I don’t think we’ve seen him yet in this role where he was a father figure to Maya. There was real love there from a young age for Maya. I think he’s a twisted person who didn’t know how to maybe do the right things and used her to his advantage along the way. But I think there were real feelings there. And I think that when we saw him last at the end of ‘Hawkeye,’ he was definitely humbled by Maya when she shot him in the face and left him for dead.”

Marvel Studios’ decision to release all episodes of ‘Echo’ at once is a departure from their usual weekly release strategy. The series, which will be available on Hulu until April 9, 2024, has been rated TV-MA, another first for a Marvel Studios television release.

Elsewhere, D’Onofrio revealed the two Marvel heroes who could actually kill Kingpin. You can read that story here.
