John Cena recently voiced concerns about the impact of aging on his career, hinting that he is thinking about an exit strategy.
As per InsideTheMagic.net, Cena expressed concerns about continuing in WWE due to the physical demands associated with aging:
“I turned 47 this past year, and I don’t have much time left in the WWE. I think it’s just the demand of age.”
Cena’s career in the wrestling ring began in 2002, leading to a tenure in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He has not only won the WWE Royal Rumble twice but also claimed the world champion title 16 times and headlined Wrestlemania on five occasions.
Despite his success in wrestling, Cena revealed that he has been trying to form this ‘exit strategy’ for around two years:
“I wouldn’t be who I am — professionally or personally — without the WWE, and I promised myself that I would never simply just be there for my own sake. Every time I perform, I want to give my all to the audience. And I’ve got to admit, when I hit the 45 mark, I had to begin to try to form an exit strategy, and I’m trying to work on that currently.”
John Cena’s Career in the Superhero Realm
Parallel to his wrestling fame, Cena achieved critical and popular success with his portrayal of Christopher Smith/Peacemaker in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021) and the ongoing ‘Peacemaker’ series. The role was initially intended for Dave Bautista, but it later became synonymous with Cena.
Before his breakthrough in the DC Universe, Cena was rejected in auditions for both Marvel and DC Comics-based films, including roles like Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’ and the title character in ‘Shazam!.’ His persistence led him to the opportunity to eventually work with James Gunn.
Cena is set to reprise his role in the second season of ‘Peacemaker’ and as a DLC fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. Looking ahead, his portfolio continues to expand with upcoming projects such as ‘Argylle,’ ‘Ricky Stanicky,’ ‘Heads of State,’ ‘Coyote v. Acme,’ ‘The Janson Directive,’ and ‘Grand Death Lotto.’
