Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio Has A Dream About Creating Joker-Like Version Of Fisk

He hopes to explore a new side of Kingpin, similar to the Joker’s character in depth and darkness.

According to his recent ComicBook.com interview, Vincent D’Onofrio is not only reprising his role as Wilson Fisk in the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ but also wishing for a unique vision for his character.

During the conversation, D’Onofrio revealed his dream to take Kingpin in a new direction. He expressed an interest in developing a different version of Fisk with a darker, more introspective approach, saying:

“I would love to do a ‘What If…?’ kind of Fisk story. I would just like to explore him in an outside-of-the-usual teaming up of villain and superhero. I’d like to see a truly more realistic version, kind of like what they did with the Joker …  A more interior approach and you know, ten times darker than anything we’ve done with him before. You know, exploring that would be really interesting.”

D’Onofrio returned to this role as Fisk in 2021’s ‘Hawkeye.’ He’s currently starring in ‘Echo,’ which is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

Is Echo Related to the Upcoming Daredevil Movie?

‘Echo’ has set the stage for ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ a series that will further explore the streets of New York and its vigilantes. Producer Brad Winderbaum hinted at how ‘Echo’ lays the groundwork for this new series in a previous interview:

“As we move forward into the future of the MCU and we start telling more grounded New York-based stories, like ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ Daredevil himself as a symbol of vigilantism in that city, as a symbol of what it means to be operating in the criminal underworld in New York, it’s just so impactful. And Charlie is Daredevil; you can’t really separate the two now. Even in that scene in ‘Echo,’ he really … I mean, you just wanna know more, you wanna lean in. It’s the greatest hook in the world for our future, moving forward.”

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is scheduled for release on Disney+ in 2025 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. The series will be split into two segments, each with nine episodes. D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is set to continue in the tone established in ‘Echo,’ which he believes is the most fitting portrayal of his character.

Aside from ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ D’Onofrio’s future projects include roles in ‘Many Worlds,‘ ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,‘ and ‘A Fall from Grace.
