According to the Mirror, Cillian Murphy of ‘Peaky Blinders’ reportedly held a recent meeting with the show’s creator, Steven Knight, in Soho.
As per the source who spoke to the Mirror, this secret rendezvous took place at The French House, a well-known pub in the heart of London, and sparked rumors that the gears may be turning towards the development of a ‘Peaky Blinders’ film.
The duo’s meeting was described by sources as a deep and engaging conversation lasting over an hour:
“His meeting with Steven last week makes a return look all the more likely. They sat for over an hour together and were deep in conversation. So for Peaky fans, there’s hope he will be back.”
For some, this hints at Murphy’s likely return to the role.
Will There Be a Movie of ‘Peaky Blinders’?
‘Peaky Blinders‘ commenced in 2013 and concluded its six-season run in 2022. It is set in the aftermath of the First World War and explores the exploits of the Shelby crime family. The show’s conclusion was announced in January 2021, with Knight revealing plans for a movie to cap off the Shelby saga, alongside potential spin-offs.
Knight recently fueled the rumors by announcing the completion of a script for a ‘Peaky Blinders’ film, hinting at the possibility of bringing Thomas Shelby and his gang to the silver screen. At 47, Murphy, following a successful stint as physicist Robert Oppenheimer, appears to be ready for his next role, with the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie being a potential project on the horizon.
In a July statement, Murphy addressed the rumors about the movie adaptation. Speaking to the Radio Times, he expressed his willingness to reprise his role:
“I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see but I have no update for you on that.”
As of now, there is no confirmed production date for the movie. However, Knight’s announcement of a 2024 cinema release and the commencement of production in spring 2023 suggests that ‘Peaky Blinders’ fans may not have to wait much longer for it.
Murphy, meanwhile, continues to explore other roles, with his upcoming appearance in ‘Small Things Like These‘ as Bill Furlong.
