Ben Wang Gets The Lead Role In Jackie Chan And Ralph Macchio’s New ‘Karate Kid’

The ‘Karate Kid’ series is back with a fresh installment this year, bringing together Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to reprise their iconic roles.

Ben Wang, known for his role in the Disney+ series ‘American Born Chinese,’ has landed the lead in the latest ‘Karate Kid’ film, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly.

Wang’s audition reportedly made a big impact, showing his deep understanding of the character and his martial arts skills. Fluent in Mandarin and trained in various martial arts styles such as karate, wing chun kung fu, kempo, and taekwondo, the actor’s abilities played a key role in his casting.

In the new film, Wang will join Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, who are returning to their roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso.

What We Know About The Upcoming Movie

Since its beginning in 1984, the ‘Karate Kid’ universe has expanded with sequels and a reboot starring Jaden Smith as Dre Parker opposite Chan. The return of the original characters on the ‘Cobra Kai’ TV series has reignited interest in the franchise.

The upcoming movie will introduce a new storyline on the East Coast, focusing on a teenager from China who discovers strength and purpose through martial arts.

Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, written by Rob Lieber, and produced by Karen Rosenfelt, the movie has set its release date for December 13.
