While speaking with Inverse about the 2005 cult classic ‘Constantine’ and its upcoming sequel, Tilda Swinton recently hinted that Keanu Reeves might take on an unexpected role.
As fans of the original film know, ‘Constantine2 stars Reeves as the lead character, a cynical exorcist. Swinton, on the other hand, portrays the androgynous archangel Gabriel. In the interview, Swinton, despite her role in the original, revealed she has not been approached to return for the sequel:
“I’m sorry to have to tell you that I know nothing about this sequel except that I’ve heard it’s happening.”
After sharing the news, she also talked about a curious rumor she heard, suggesting that Reeves might portray Gabriel in the upcoming film:
“Unless they’re very late in calling me, I don’t think Gabriel will be flapping his/her wings. I did hear a rumor, I don’t know if you heard it, that Keanu was going to play Gabriel. Which would be beautiful.”
The possibility of seeing Reeves’ as Gabriel in the sequel opens up the path for new narratives. Will the actor play Gabriel alone, or will he have a dual role as Constantine and Gabriel?
