Colin Farrell Admits He Can’t Own The Penguin Role

Farrell feels like he doesn’t completely own the role, even though he’s the one in front of the camera.

Colin Farrell says that he doesn’t feel like he completely owns his role as The Penguin. But why?

Farrell transformed into The Penguin for the first time in the 2022 movie ‘The Batman.’ This wasn’t just putting on a costume — it involved a lot of makeup and special effects. The man behind this change is the prosthetics designer Mike Marino. Farrell recently told ET that the new ‘The Penguin’ series wouldn’t even be happening if it weren’t for Marino’s work:

“I have never had such less ownership for a character that I’ve played than this one. Like, straight-up, ’cause this show wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Mike Marino creating the visage of that fella.”

What Did it Take to Turn Farrell Into The Penguin?

Imagine sitting for three hours every morning while a team of experts works on your face and teeth, even sending eyebrows from Los Angeles to get everything just right. That’s dedication, and Farrell appreciated every bit of it:

“It was three hours in the chair every morning, which is fine ’cause I love the crew that we had. There were people that were making the eyebrows in L.A. and sending eyebrows out. And there was someone that did the teeth and there was such a collection of people who came together to create [it]. It takes a village. I loved working on it. It was amazing.”

It turns out Farrell’s ‘The Batman’ co-stars were so amazed by his transformation that they walked right past him without even recognizing him.

‘The Penguin’ will see an all-star cast joining Farrell. The eight-episode series is set to hit Max later this year.

Farrell appears as Cobblepo and talks about his childhood memories in a recent teaser for the show. You can watch it below.
