Dune Director Exposes Fremen’s Sexual Life: ’They Can’t Do It Outside, For Sure’

It turns out intimacy is just a matter of finding the right place for the Fremen.

The Fremen avoid even shedding tears to conserve water in the desert. So, the New York Times recently questioned Denis Villeneuve about how the group managed their sexual lives in the ‘Dune’ series. He explained:

“You cannot have sex outside, for sure. But [the Fremen] are very sexual. I suspect that all sexual intercourse happens in environments that are protected from losing moisture. When they are in their sietches [or caves] underground, those are sealed. You don’t need to wear stillsuits inside them. We can deduce from that there is no problem to have sex in a sietch.”

The director also noted that Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ books go into more detail about the Fremen’s sexual activities, but he left them out of the films because ‘it’s PG-13.’

The Director’s Plans For The Third Film

The ‘Dune’ franchise made over $1 billion with two installments so far. The second film ended with Paul (Timothée Chalamet) choosing to kill billions to fulfill his role as Messiah and betraying Chani (Zendaya).

Villeneuve gave a hint about what will happen between Paul and Chani after this by saying:

“That anger is tremendous. I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now. But there’s a lot of firepower there and I’m very excited about that decision.”

The upcoming movie will follow Herbert’s ‘Dune: Messiah.’
