Sam Raimi Has Certain Conditions To Return To Marvel For ‘Spider Man 4’

The director discusses his possible approach to directing a new film for Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.

There have been rumors about Sam Raimi possibly directing ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ and Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man 4.’ Some also claimed that Raimi was teaming up with Tobey Maguire again for a direct sequel to his original trilogy.

The director addressed the talks in an interview with The Wrap at the ‘Boy Kills World’ premiere:

“I don’t have any plans [with Marvel]. But I would love it!”

The Director Has A Specific Idea For ‘Spider-Man 4’

Raimi gave a good arc as a condition for his return to the Spider-Man universe with Maguire:

“I’d have to know what the next thing that character has to learn. I’d have to talk with Tobey, and the writers, and really figure out what his personal growth for this episode would be.”

He explained his thoughts for a hypothetical story:

“I think if we were to make a fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire his character would be going on, and what obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally. And I hope that the villain would be chosen based on a representation of that obstacle.”

Spider-Man’s Story Continues In The MCU

Sam Raimi’s original plans for ‘Spider-Man 4’ included a battle against John Malkovich’s Vulture and Anne Hathaway’s Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. The project was canceled in 2010 after he left due to a rushed production schedule.

Spider-Man still faced off against Vulture (Michael Keaton) in Tom Holland’s ‘Homecoming,’ though. Now, Holland’s new sequel for the franchise is expected to feature a villain not portrayed in live-action yet.

Filming for MCU’s ‘Spider-Man 4’ will start this September and October.
