‘The Little Mermaid’ Gets A R-Rated Live-Action Adaptation

Say goodbye to the sweet mermaid Ariel you thought you knew.

There is a new ‘The Little Mermaid’ movie, and it’s not like the Disney movie many of us grew up with.

MSR Media recently released the first trailer for this new version of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ It’s rated R and falls into the horror genre.

‘The Little Mermaid’ is originally written by Hans Christian Anderson. It tells the tale of a young mermaid named Ariel who is curious about the human world. Disney’s versions portray her in a light and magical way. Anderson’s original story had darker tones, and MSR Media is focusing on this in their latest adaptation.

Ariel is renamed Aurora in this new movie, and she is a flesh-eating monster. Archaeologist Dr. Eric Prince discovers signs of an ancient society on a Caribbean island. He digs deeper and comes across Aurora, but her arrival causes strange events. Dr. Prince falls in love with her, and the drama unfolds when Dr. Prince’s friend discovers Aurora’s real identity.

Disney’s ‘Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Movie Is Pretty Different

Disney’s recent live-action film ‘The Little Mermaid’ stars Halle Bailey. It offers a much more family-friendly experience because it stays true to Disney’s original animated version.

MSR Media’s adaptation is part of a trend where classic Disney characters are reimagined in horror films. The film is directed by Leigh Scott and stars Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff, and Jeff Denton. It is marked with an R rating due to language, some violence, and brief nudity.
