‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie With Cillian Murphy Is Officially In Works

The showrunner updates fans about Murphy and the Shelbys’ return.

‘Peaky Blinders’ concluded its six-season run two years ago. Writer Steven Knight shared plans to carry the story to big screen after the finale. He recently gave details on the upcoming movie during an interview with NME:

“It’s gonna happen. It’s gonna happen this September. I’m just doing the final polishes, which will continue up until the day before we start shooting. But we’re there. We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go.”

Knight also confirmed Cillian Murphy’s comeback as Thomas Shelby and explained:

“I think the film is gonna be a step up again, and it’s gonna be great that ‘Peaky’ fans can meet in one place and watch it. The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we’re ending this chapter, we’re all going to try to do our best. Cillian [Murphy] is really up for it. So I can’t wait for it to start shooting.”

News Followed A Secret Meeting

The writer and the lead actor met in February 2024 to discuss the project at The French House in Soho. Mirror reported that the secret meeting lasted over an hour and wrote:

“His meeting with Steven last week makes a return look all the more likely. They sat for over an hour together and were deep in conversation. So for Peaky fans, there’s hope he will be back.”

Script Has Been In The Works For Years

Steven Knight began working on the movie script back in 2022. The writer didn’t reveal any plot details in recent chats but previously hinted that the story would continue from where ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6 left off. He told Esquire:

“The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. How the story will unfold, I don’t know. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be.”

His words continued:

“In series six we’re bringing in the new generation, and they are going to be part of what happens in the film. I think it’s finding those actors that you just watch and you think, there you go. There’s the future.”

There’s still no confirmed release date for the upcoming film.
