Ross Marquand Hints At Avengers Vs. X-Men Adaptation In X-Men ’97

The Professor X actor thinks the series could lead up to a showdown between the Avengers and the X-Men.

A grieving Rogue bumped into Captain America and threw his shield to a hard-to-find place in the seventh episode of ‘X-Men ’97.’ Ross Marquand referred to the scene in a new chat with ComicBook.com and implied that it could trigger an ‘Avengers vs. X-Men’ storyline:

“You saw what happened in the last episode [with] Rogue and Captain America. There’s a real chance that that could happen. He can’t fly. Captain can’t fly. She threw that in the side of a snowy mountain.”

He jokingly added:

“I’m sure it’s lodged in there 50 feet deep. He isn’t gonna find that shield. It’s not like Mjolnir where you can pull it back, it’s stuck in that thing. He’s gonna be pissed at Rogue for a while.”

The Two Worlds Are Connecting

‘X-Men ’97’ Season 1 started to connect to the MCU through cameos from Captain America and Spider-Man. Doctor Doom and Baron Zemo also made appearances through Bastion’s secret cabal.

The series referenced Kamar-Taj and the radicalization of mutants after the Genosha attack, too. All this may set the stage for a future clash between Marvel’s superhero teams as two more seasons are already in the works.

The Voice Actor Is Happy With The Show

Meanwhile, Ross Marquand is likely to continue as Professor X in the series through the upcoming events. He said the following about his role in the recent interview:

“I say this to my manager all the time… if this is the last thing I do with my career, I would die a happy man. I really would.”

Marquand previously played Red Skull and Infinity Ultron in ‘What If…?’ He first appeared as Red Skull in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ after Hugo Weaving declined the offer to come back. The actor shot those scenes in a single day:

“It was a helluva of a way to work, and I really like that style of filming. I think we finished it in eight hours – both films, back-to-back, in one day. I mean that’s unheard of.”

‘X-Men ’97’ Season 1 finale will air on May 15 on Disney+.
