Lucasfilm Opens Doors For An R-Rated Star Wars Film

There is a potential for more mature themes and stories in the franchise.

Lucasfilm CEO Dave Filoni said they can make an R-rated ‘Star Wars’ film in the future.

In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Filoni admitted that the idea sounds ‘interesting.’ He suggested that an R-rated film could be successful if it is well-made and gave ‘Andor’ as an example:

“I think it’s interesting that… The bottom line is that whatever we do, it has to be really well done. I think when you look at something is taken as different as ‘Andor,’ it’s so well done that I think that there’s an audience for that.”

Filoni said that people’s tastes change over time, much like their preferences for food. He believes there is an audience for more adult-themed content in the Star Wars universe, just like the success of other R-rated films like ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine.’

You can watch the interview below.

All ‘Star Wars’ Projects Were PG-13

The ‘Star Wars’ series began in 1977. All the movies and shows have been rated PG-13 to be suitable for a wider audience.

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ was released with a PG-13 rating in 2018. The film received average reviews. Some feel that an R-rated version might have been better, as Han Solo is known for his adventurous nature. So, it’s now possible for a ‘Solo’ sequel to take a more mature approach.

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ is available for streaming on Disney+ in the U.S.
