Valorie Curry Admits She Finds Homophobic Firecracker ‘Relatable’

Curry, who identifies as a lesbian, thinks it’s crucial for LGBTQ+ actors to play these roles.

‘The Boys’ actress Valorie Curry admits it may seem surprising, but she found her character Firecracker relatable.

Curry identifies as a lesbian, but Firecracker is a character known for her extreme views. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she understood Firecracker because she thinks that she’s been marginalized:

“It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat. It should be somebody from the community who’s getting to make a clown out of her. So there isn’t any ambiguity. As an actor, our first job isn’t to judge our characters. Right or wrong, she’s someone who believes she’s been marginalized.”

Curry says actors shouldn’t judge their characters. She also notes that it’s childhood trauma that influenced Firecracker’s behavior.

Firecracker is New to The Seven

‘The Boys’ season 4 follows Homelander as he recruits new members and creates big problems for Butcher and his gang. Butcher, dealing with personal losses and only months to live, must lead his team to save the world.

Firecracker is one of the new members of The Seven — along with Sister Sage. She is an alt-right TV host with the ability to create sparks from her fingers and causes major trouble for Billy Butcher and his team. She manipulates the masses and leads a smear campaign against Annie January and her Starlighters.

Returning cast members for season 4 include Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. New names joining the cast are Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The first three episodes of ‘The Boys’ season 4 were released on June 13th, with new episodes coming out weekly until the season finale on July 18th.
