Giancarlo Esposito joined the MCU in an unknown role in ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ He addressed the characters he was thought to play in a recent chat with ComicBook.
Before the recent casting news, the actor teased the idea of playing Professor X in X-Men remakes. The interviewer pointed out how the possibility was gone now that he was in the ‘Captain America’ sequel. Esposito said:
“The fans really started the Professor X rumor and I loved it. I went along for the ride because I love the fans.”
He explained:
“I started thinking about Professor X, because I feel like that could be a character that I would really excel at, and really be great in. They also talked about Magneto, they also talked about [DC’s Mr.] Freeze, all of those things. I am so happy to be in the MCU. I’m happy that you don’t know what I’m doing there and I’m happy that I probably don’t know what I’m doing there, but I’m happy to be there and you’re going to see it soon.”
The ‘Breaking Bad’ Actor’s MCU Role
Esposito announced his addition to the MCU at a convention in May. He shared about his character:
“The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict. It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards.”
Shortly after the event, a photographer captured the actor on the ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ set in Grantville, Georgia. He was wearing a long black coat and a vest that sported some blades during the filming.
Rumors suggested that Esposito was playing one of the villains for Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. But Marvel is not likely to reveal the character’s identity before the upcoming movie’s release on February 14, 2025.
What we know is that Giancarlo Esposito is in a cast that also features Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, and Rosa Salazar.
