Scooper ‘MyTimeToShine’ recently claimed on X that Marvel Studios is in talks with George Clooney for an unknown role.
There’s talk that Clooney could play a Multiversal Variant of Nick Fury. If this is true, we might see his take on the S.H.I.E.L.D. director in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ or another project leading up to it.
Others speculate that the actor might take on Doctor Doom in the new ‘The Fantastic Four’ movie.
Clooney Stays Away From Superhero Genre
George Clooney stepped away from superhero flicks after his appearance in 1997’s ‘Batman & Robin.’ He explained why during a New York City Q&A session in 2021:
“I did one superhero movie and I f*cked it up so bad they won’t let me near the set.”
The actor also referenced his Batman costume and said he didn’t ‘want to get into all the bat nipples.’
He Could’ve Played Nick Fury
Still, earlier rumors suggested that Clooney considered playing Nick Fury in a 2001 project but later refused the part due to its gory content. The writer of the said comic book scene, Garth Ennis, addressed these talks in a recent chat with Comic Book Herald:
“If it’s true that (Clooney) decided against playing Nick Fury on the basis of that Fury book that I did with Darick (Robertson) – which is still one of my favorites, by the way – I would find that highly amusing and entertaining. But also, I wonder if it might have been more that… perhaps someone said to him, some advisor or other, ‘You don’t want to go near this.’…It’s very hard to believe that, were there to have been a Nick Fury movie at that time, it would have remotely resembled anything that I wrote.”
The actor currently has another project in line. He’ll appear in the ‘Wolfs’ film opposite Brad Pitt on September 20, 2024.
