Meg Donnelly Admits She Tried To Get The Live-Action Supergirl Role But Failed

The actress shared details about her audition for the live-action Supergirl role.

Meg Donnelly voiced Supergirl in ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three’ and tried out for the same role in the upcoming live-action film ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ She shared her audition process in a recent chat with Screen Rant:

“To play Supergirl has always been a dream of mine in any way, so the animation was incredible. When I heard talks of there being a live action version in the DCU, I fought for the audition, like so much like it was just all I wanted and putting my energy towards. I ended up getting one and just the fact that they watched it and liked it, it’s just really surreal. I was able to go and screen test, do stunt work and scenes, it was really surreal and just really emotional that I got to do that.”

The actress lost the part to Milly Alcock, but her words went on:

“It doesn’t feel real, the whole time, I was freaking out because it felt like a dream come true. Just being a little kid, I never thought that I would be able to do anything like this, because I love superheroes and superhero movies so much. They ended up going like a different direction which is totally fine, and I am so excited for the movie anyways, I’m such a big fan of James Gunn and his team. They’re just the nicest people in the world, so yeah, it was great, it was such an incredible experience that I just hold nothing but joy from.”

She May Get Another Role In The DC Franchise

Donnelly still has a chance to secure a live-action part in the DC Universe, though. Her ‘The Winchesters’ co-star Drake Rodger previously shared his wish to play Nightwing in James Gunn’s future projects. When asked if she’d be willing to play Batgirl opposite Rodger, the actress said:

“Yes! As literally anything, I’m such a huge fan of James Gunn and also what they’re doing with the DC Universe so any way I can be involved would just be incredible. Just being able to play a superhero on screen would really be a dream come true.”

The ‘Bat-Family’ will get its own film titled ‘The Brave and the Bold’ in the upcoming years, but it’s yet to have an official cast. Meanwhile, a new lineup of heroes are set to debut in 2025’s ‘Superman.’

David Corenswet will take on the lead role in the ‘Gods and Monsters’ kickstarter. Isabela Merced will join him as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

‘Superman’ will hit the screen on July 11, 2025. ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will follow in June 2026.
