At the ‘Cobra Kai’ season six part one premiere at Autry Museum at Griffith Park on July 17 in Los Angeles, Ralph Macchio spoke with the Hollywood Reporter and said he’ll miss working with the cast and crew:
“We’re going to be friends for life, that’s just the way it works in the ‘Karate Kid’ universe, such deep relationships. I’ll miss creating with them, but I have a feeling we will create in other ways — to me it’s not goodbye forever, it’s ‘I’ll see you next time.'”
After six seasons, ‘Cobra Kai’ is ending, but the ‘Karate Kid’ franchise will continue. The Netflix series happens over 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, continuing the feud between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. It started with two seasons on YouTube Red before moving to Netflix.
A New ‘Karate Kid’ Movie Is On The Way
The end of ‘Cobra Kai’ may be near, with the final season released in three parts. After that, a new ‘Karate Kid’ movie will come to theaters starring Macchio and Jackie Chan. Chan played a martial arts master in the 2010 remake with Jaden Smith, where Macchio didn’t appear. Ralph said the following about working with Chan:
“Jackie Chan is a legend, just to have that opportunity was exciting. He was wonderful. Lot of heart, lot of soul, and caring, I will say that about Jackie. He loves being on set and it was like his first day every day. I love seeing that at his age and time of his career because I like to try to bring that as well, but a great young cast on that one, and we’ll see where it goes.”
Macchio also said he will stop playing the character when it no longer feels truthful. He has always aimed to portray the character honestly, both in the original movie and in ‘Cobra Kai.’ ‘Cobra Kai’ season six, part one is now on Netflix, with part two coming on November 15 and part three in 2025.
