In a new interview with Collider, director Matthew Vaughn explained why ‘Kingsman 3’ is taking a while to complete due to Taron Egerton’s busy schedule:
“That’ll be the next year because Taron’s bloody busy. He’s doing another movie, the guy that did ‘Blackbird,’ they’re doing another big TV show. So I have to wait for his availability as well.”
The Kingsman series started as comics by Mark Millar and David Gibbons in 2012. The first movie came out in 2014, followed by sequels, spinoffs, and TV series plans.
After the first film’s success, Vaughn made ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ in 2017. A third film, ‘Kingsman: The Blue Blood,’ was planned, but Vaughn released a prequel, ‘The King’s Man,’ in 2021. Eggsy’s final film has been delayed, but Vaughn confirmed the script is now in progress.
The TV show Vaughn mentioned is ‘Firebug,’ starring Egerton and Jurnee Smollett. The eight-episode series follows a detective and arson investigator hunting serial arsonists. Egerton has also worked on other projects since the initial plan for ‘Kingsman 3.’
What Did Egerton Previously Say About The Film?
The third Kingsman movie was supposed to start filming in 2019, but it got delayed to 2022 and then to 2025. During this time, Egerton worked on other projects like the series ‘Blackbird’ and the Elton John biopic ‘Rocketman.’ The actor previously said the following about reprising his role in the sequel:
“[Vaughn] has every intention of making it, and I have every intention of playing Eggsy one more time. That was always what I thought I was committed to doing. It’s the role that made my name, so I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life.”
It’s unclear which cast members will return for ‘Kingsman 3,’ but their schedules are likely considered. Colin Firth is expected to return as Harry Hart. He has been busy with projects like ‘Mamma Mia Here We Go Again,’ ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ ‘1917,’ and ‘The Staircase’ series. Firth is also involved in a new Sherlock Holmes series, ‘Young Sherlock.’
