DC Studios’ ‘Lanterns’ TV Show Receives Exciting Updates

The eight-episode series will focus on Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder.

DC Studios shared some exciting news about their upcoming TV show, ‘Lanterns.’

‘Lanterns’ has been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order from HBO. It means it’s definitely happening. Production is set to start in January 2025 and will continue until June 2025. The initial plan was to film in the UK, but NexusPointNews reports that the series will now be shot in Atlanta. This means we may see the show premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.

There are also some casting rumors. Channing Tatum may be one of the actors DC Studios is considering for Hal Jordan. It seems Glen Powell is no longer in the running for this role.

Casting for Hal Jordan is the top priority right now. Casting for John Stewart is to follow. The Hal Jordan role is meant for a famous actor, and there may be chemistry reads to see how the actors for Hal and John work together.

Gunn is Pretty Excited About The Show

Lanterns follows John Stewart, a new recruit, and Hal Jordan, a veteran Green Lantern. These two intergalactic cops are pulled into a dark mystery on Earth as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. Hal Jordan will be in his 40s, and John Stewart will be in his 30s.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are very excited about Lanterns. They said:

“We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon, and Tom at the helm. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with ‘Superman.'”

Lanterns will be led by Chris Mundy, who will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. Chris Mundy is known for his work on ‘True Detective: Night Country.’ He will be working alongside Damon Lindelof, who worked on ‘Watchmen,’ and Tom King, who is known for ‘Supergirl.’ They will write the show together.

There is no confirmed premiere date for ‘Lanterns.’
