Matt Damon Sets One Condition To Reprise His Role As Jason Bourne

The franchise didn’t get a new installment since 2016.

Matt Damon starred as Jason Bourne in all of the ‘Bourne’ films except for 2012’s ‘The Bourne Legacy’ since 2002’s ‘The Bourne Identity.’ Good Morning America recently asked the actor whether he would reprise the role in a future sequel, and he explained:

“I would definitely take on this role again if there was a good script, if we could figure out where to take the character to make it interesting for the audience. We wouldn’t want to just retread what we’ve already done, but if there was an interesting place to take the character I would definitely—definitely—do that again.”

New ‘Bourne’ Film Is On The Horizon

Universal Pictures confirmed that ‘Bourne 6’ was in the works earlier this year. Damon mentioned to Stephen Colbert that if he were to join the project, it could possibly be his last time as Jason Bourne. His words read:

“At a certain point, someone is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger.”

The studio reportedly approached Edward Berger to direct the upcoming sequel, and the actor noted:

“I would love to work with him! So, he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing—I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”

Damon’s Upcoming Project

Matt Damon is gearing up to play in a new Netflix thriller titled ‘RIP’ with Ben Affleck in the coming years. The two’s Artists Equity studio will produce the film. Joe Carnahan will write and direct, but details about the plot and release date are still under wraps.

Damon and Affleck have been working together since 1997’s ‘Good Will Hunting.’ The Robin Williams-led movie earned them Oscars for best original screenplay.

The duo also starred together in Ridley Scott’s ‘The Last Duel’ with Jodie Comer and Adam Driver in 2021. Their last collaboration was the 2023’s ‘Air.’
