Ncuti Gatwa Reportedly Doubles His Fortune After ‘Doctor Who’ Role Despite Poor Ratings

Gatwa’s first run as the Doctor debuted in May.

Ncuti Gatwa’s role in ‘Doctor Who’ reportedly doubled his earnings despite the last season’s mixed reviews. The Sun recently wrote that his total earnings hit £1.9 million, adding to his payment from previous work on Netflix’s ‘Sex Education.’

Details from financial records show that Gatwa took a £700,000 salary from his company, Gemini Moon, following his appearance as the Fifteenth Doctor. An insider shared:

“Landing one of the most sought-after roles on TV was always going to help Ncuti’s career and earning power. That much is clear from his latest accounts. But some might be wondering if his financial success has been matched by his success as the Time Lord.”

They added:

“The number of people tuning in for a show that reveled in being a shared experience for all the family is somewhat underwhelming, to say the least.”

Recent Rating Drops And The Show’s Possible Future

Disney+ and BBC’s collaboration increased the budget for ‘Doctor Who’ in late 2023. But the show’s future is unclear at the moment after a drop in ratings although Season 2’s production is already finished.

Viewership in the US remained ‘underwhelming’ because of the high-budget and marketing costs while Season 1 lost around 1.5 million viewers in the UK compared to Jodie Whittaker’s era. Some blamed Disney’s involvement in the creative decisions for the drop.

BBC is happy with the series’ performance on iPlayer, but low TV ratings might break the deal with Disney. Rumor says that the upcoming Season 2 could be Gatwa’s last as the Fifteenth.

Disney will reportedly make a decision about the future after the new spinoff’s release. ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’ will have Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the lead. Jemma Redgrave will return as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.
