Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Gives Update On Her Health After Revealing Graves Disease Diagnosis

Daisy Ridley publicly shared her diagnosis of Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition that mainly affects young and middle-aged women.

In a new conversation with Women’s Health, ‘Star Wars’ actress Daisy Ridley talked about her health and disclosed her Graves’ disease diagnosis from last year.

“It’s the first time I’ve shared that [Graves’],” Ridley said before speaking more on her disease.

“I thought, ‘Well, I’ve just played a really stressful role; presumably that’s why I feel poorly,” the actress added, referring to her stressful role in ‘Magpie.’

Ridley said her symptoms included a racing heart, weight loss, and fatigue. The doctor described Graves’ disease as feeling ‘tired but wired.’ The actress added, “It was funny, I was like, ‘Oh, I just thought I was annoyed at the world,’ but turns out everything is functioning so quickly, you can’t chill out.”

Daisy was diagnosed in September 2023 after her doctor suggested seeing an endocrinologist due to hot flashes and fatigue. She isn’t sure if her conditions are related, but their symptoms are similar.

Being diagnosed with Graves’ disease led Ridley to go gluten-free, and that made her feel better. She is now more conscious of her well-being. Graves’ disease affects the thyroid gland by causing it to produce too much hormone. It mainly affects women and people over 30. Celebrities like Wendy Williams and Missy Elliott also have the disease.

The last ‘Star Wars’ trilogy ended in 2019 with ‘Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.’ Since then, Disney has announced three new ‘Star Wars’ movies. Ridley will return as Rey in one of them.

Ridley previously said she found ‘New Jedi Order’ very exciting and expects to read the script soon, with filming possibly starting next year. The movie will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Still, it doesn’t have a release date yet.
