‘Kraven The Hunter’ Gets Its First Trailer Only To Receive Backlash

First look at Rhino in the new teaser received heavy criticism.

Sony Pictures released a new trailer for ‘Kraven the Hunter’ on August 14. Fans later went on social media to criticize several aspects of the film, like Kraven’s portrayal as an animal-loving killer.

The film’s visual effects also became a talking point, with Rhino’s ‘mutant’ appearance drawing mockery online. Viewers especially took issue with the character’s cartoonish face and his black pants that grew during transformation.

Alessandro Nivola played Rhino in ‘Kraven the Hunter.’ “These movies all have a certain formula to them, but J.C. said that he wanted to shoot all on location,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter about the J.C. Chandor-directed movie in 2022. “The physical ability of the characters in the movie is also more grounded in reality. People aren’t flying around or anything. J.C. described it as the most incredible Olympic athlete you’ve ever seen.”

He continued, “It’s just a great character part, and I didn’t have to do any CGI. I only transform, physically, in the final moments of the movie, so it’s just a classic villain role. It had a really interesting, complex psychology and personal history to draw on, and the movie has a time jump in it, so the character changes a lot from the way he is in the beginning of the film.”

Nivola joined a cast featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff. The production team included ‘Morbius’ producer Avi Arad as well as Matt Tolmach and David Householter.

Long-delayed ‘Kraven the Hunter’ will hit the theaters on December 13.
