Colin Farrell: ‘The Penguin Doesn’t Care About The Batman At All’

The story follows Oz as he deals with bigger issues.

Colin Farrell recently opened up about his role as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb in the new The Penguin series.

In an interview with ComicBook at the series’ world premiere in New York City, Farrell explained that his character is not concerned with Batman at all during the events of the show.

The Penguin was first introduced in 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ where he shared several scenes with Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However, Farrell said Batman doesn’t really influence Oz’s actions in ‘The Penguin’ series. “He’s not thinking about The Bat at all,” Farrell said.

Farrell added that Oz is much more focused on his own problems. “I’m sure maybe there’s a scene we did, a night where he’s wondering is that guy gonna turn up, but there’s so much sh*t happening to him already that the immediate present is something that he’s struggling with greatly,” he explained.

‘The Penguin’ series focuses on Oz trying to rise in Gotham’s criminal underworld after Carmine Falcone’s death. Farrell explained that Oz is dealing with a lot, and he has many problems to handle at once. “Oz has other things on his mind. He’s very, very focused on the now,” Farrell said. “He has so many plates spinning out of control, and he’s trying to keep sh*t together.”

‘The Penguin’ premiered on HBO’s Max on September 19.
