‘Rust’ Will Finally Be Revealed To The Public At Camerimage Film Festival, Without Alec Baldwin

The indie Western film will finally see release this November, three years after the on-set shooting accident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

‘Rust’ will premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival in Poland on November 16–23, followed by a panel discussion to honor Halyna Hutchins, who died after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot her during production.

“The filmmakers will discuss events surrounding the film, offering insight into continuing production after Halyna’s death,” the festival organizers shared Thursday. “Maintaining Hutchins’ artistic vision, as tremendously challenging as it was for the entire crew, was really important to the filmmakers, hoping to fulfill their duty to complete her work.”

“Halyna’s story will serve as a starting point for a conversation about the role of women in cinematography and their contributions to the art of filmmaking,” the statement went on. “Another key topic of the discussion will be safety on set.”

Speakers at the premiere will include writer-director Joel Souza, who was also injured by the discharged prop gun in 2021. Hutchins’ mentor from her days at the American Film Institute, Stephen Lighthill, and Bianca Cline, who stepped in her place to complete the production, will also join.

According to sources, Baldwin will not attend the premiere despite being the film’s star and lead producer. It’s unclear whether the rest of the cast including Travis Fimmel, Frances Fisher, Josh Hopkins, and Patrick Scott McDermott will show up.

Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter after the shooting on the New Mexico set, but the case was eventually dropped in July. Meanwhile, the ‘Rust’ film armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of the said charges and sentenced to 18 months in jail.
