Christopher Nolan is getting ready to release a new movie, and he’s bringing back one of his Oppenheimer stars.
As Deadline reports, the movie doesn’t have a title yet, but it is expected to hit theaters and IMAX screens on July 17, 2026. Matt Damon, who played General Leslie Groves in ‘Oppenheimer,’ is currently in talks to join the cast of the new film.
‘Oppenheimer’s distributor Universal Pictures will also be releasing this new movie. Nolan will be writing the script and working as an executive producer alongside his wife Emma Thomas. Filming is planned to start in early 2025, but the plot of the movie hasn’t been revealed yet.
Nolan previously said that his next movie wouldn’t be as dark as ‘Oppenheimer.’ “It’s great to be able to sit here and talk to you about the success of the movie,” he admitted. “That’s a huge privilege. But the subject matter is very dark. It’s nihilistic. And, yeah, there’s part of me that’s quite keen to move on and maybe do something, you know, not quite as bleak.”
As for superhero movies, Nolan probably won’t direct another one. He said in 2023 that he’s moved on from the genre after the massive changes in the superhero movie landscape.
