Cooper Koch Wants To Replace Christian Bale As Patrick Bateman In ‘American Psycho’ Remake

The original movie featured Bale as an investment banker living a secret life as a serial killer.

Recent reports announced that a new version of ‘American Psycho’ is in the works, with Luca Guadagnino as the director. ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ star Cooper Koch quickly showed interest in playing Patrick Bateman in the remake.

Koch told The Hollywood Reporter at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, “Luca’s doing ‘American Psycho,’ so I think I can do Patrick Bateman. I haven’t played a serial killer yet, so I think I could do it.”

Scott Z. Burns will reportedly write the script for this new project, which will be a direct adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel instead of the 2000 movie’s remake.

Both the novel and the original film centered on Patrick Bateman, who leads a double life as a serial killer and a wealthy investment banker in New York City. Mary Harron directed the early adaptation while the cast included Christian Bale, Justin Theroux, Josh Lucas, Bill Sage, Chloë Sevigny, and Reese Witherspoon.

Bale’s old co-stars shared their awe with his performance in previous interviews, though Lucas once admitted to thinking it was ‘terrible’ at the time.

The Craig McDermott actor told Vanity Fair in June, “I remember the first scene I did with him, I watched him, and he seemed so false—and I now realize that it was just this fucking brilliant choice that he was making. That was an actor who was at such a completely different level already, and he was capable of having these crazy layers going on in what he was doing. I thought it was bogus acting at the time but was exactly the opposite.”

Lionsgate, the studio behind the new ‘American Psycho,’ has not announced a release date for the film yet.
