Robert Downey Jr. Threatens Future Marvel Execs With Lawsuit Over Using AI To Bring Tony Stark Back From The Dead

The actor is firmly against the use of generative AI to recreate his likeness.

Robert Downey Jr. recently appeared on the podcast ‘On With Kara Swisher’ alongside playwright Ayad Akhtar and director Bartlett Sher. They discussed his Broadway debut in a play about the dangers of AI.

During the chat, Downey touched on the possibility of Marvel using AI to recreate his likeness. He said, “To go back to the MCU,” I’m not worried about them hijacking my character’s soul because there’s like three or four guys and gals who make all the decisions there anyway, and they would never do that to me, with or without me.”

When Swisher pointed out that future executives would want to do so, he added, “Well, you’re right. I would like to here state that I intend to sue all future executives just on spec.” In response to Swisher noting he’d be gone by then, Downey joked, “But my law firm will still be very active.”

RDJ plays a Nobel Prize-winning author who uses AI to write a new book in his new play. Titled ‘McNeal,’ the Broadway production currently runs at Lincoln Center Theater until November 24.

Meanwhile, the actor also gets ready to return to Marvel as Doctor Doom in the Russo Brothers’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
