‘Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder believes his acting days are over.
“I think it’s in the rearview mirror. I do,” Somerhalder told People at the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards Gala on October 26 about his acting career.
The actor referred to the Netflix sci-fi thriller he did a few years back and continued, “Well, I dunno, we got the rights back for ‘V Wars,’ but I just don’t know how the hell we would ever make a TV show. We’re building three companies at the same time, raising kids.”
Last month, Somerhalder shared why he stopped acting after ‘The Vampire Diaries’ ended in 2017. Following the show’s success, he took on one last major role in Netflix’s ‘V Wars,’ which came out in 2019.
When it was canceled, Somerhalder decided to step away from acting. He told People it’s now been five years since his last role. The actor explained, “I stepped away from that after ‘V Wars’ to build these companies, launch films like ‘Kiss the Ground,’ ‘Common Ground,’ and ‘Ground Swell,’ and raise my kids.”
Somerhalder shared that he chose to step away from acting while his career was still strong. Instead of acting, he now focuses on projects related to farming, food, and energy, which he feels are more important to him.
He’s also involved with the Greater Ground initiative, helping farmers create sustainable food sources for pets and people. “I love what I did for a really long time,” Ian also told E! News. “I love making films, I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.”
‘The Vampire Diaries’ is still available on Max and Peacock.
