‘X-Men ’97’ Might Not Get A New Season After All

Marvel’s recent announcements left out any mention of Season 2.

We might have to wait longer than expected to see the next chapter of ‘X-Men ’97.’

Marvel recently released a ‘Look Ahead’ video that shows what fans can expect from Marvel in 2025. Missing from this announcement was any mention of ‘X-Men ’97.’ This leaves us wondering if the series will continue or if it’s facing a delay.

‘X-Men ’97’ was given a multi-season order before the first season even came out. Beau DeMayo reportedly finished writing Season 2 before he was fired earlier this year. The show’s absence in Marvel’s preview video got people asking if ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 will be delayed, or even canceled. Marvel has not commented on the situation, so we are left with speculation.

According to reports, the studio could either be keeping the release date under wraps or it might’ve pushed back the show due to rewrites.

Marvel’s preview video for the upcoming year focused on other projects: animated series like ‘What If…?,’ ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,’ ‘Eyes of Wakanda,’ and ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Live-action series such as ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ ‘Ironheart,’ and ‘Wonder Man’ were also mentioned, but ‘X-Men ’97’ was left out. The lineup suggests Marvel’s plans for Disney+ through December 2025, so it sounds unlikely the next season of ‘X-Men ’97’ will be released anytime soon.

DeMayo’s departure from Marvel also adds to the uncertainty. DeMayo was dismissed due to allegations of ‘egregious’ misconduct in March 2024, just weeks before the show premiered. Reports say that he completed writing for Season 2, but in August, new reports emerged claiming that much of Season 2 would be rewritten. Marvel assigned Matthew Chauncey as the new showrunner to oversee these changes, so it could mean more delays.

The allegations against DeMayo include claims of inappropriate behavior toward staff, such as sending suggestive photos and mistreating his team. Marvel allowed DeMayo to continue sharing updates about ‘X-Men ’97’ after reaching an agreement. He later posted a video denying the allegations and accusing Marvel of bias based on his race and sexual orientation.

‘X-Men ’97’ fans can watch Season 1 on Disney+. The new season is in production and plans for a third season are reportedly in the works, but no release date is confirmed for either.
