James Gray’s ‘Paper Tiger’ Scores Hollywood Dream Team

Director James Gray is assembling a powerhouse cast for his latest crime drama, ‘Paper Tiger.’

James Gray isn’t messing around with his next project. The filmmaker behind ‘Ad Astra‘ just scored three of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents for his upcoming crime drama.

Sources tell THR that Adam Driver, Jeremy Strong, and Anne Hathaway will tackle the story of two brothers caught up in Russian organized crime. The plot follows their relationship crumbling as they sink deeper into corruption and violence at the hands of the Russian Mafiya.

Gray’s clearly keeping his ‘Armageddon Time‘ connections strong, bringing back both Strong and Hathaway from that Hopkins-led drama. Cameras roll in 2025, but no release window’s been nailed down yet.

Coming off ‘Ad Astra‘ (which scored with critics at 83% on RT but barely broke even with $135M worldwide against a $90M budget), Gray’s got solid footing in both blockbusters and smaller fare like “Lost City of Z” and his Phoenix collaborations on “We Own the Night” and “The Immigrant.”

Driver’s jumping in fresh off Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis‘ drama, both the on-screen and off-screen kind. That $120M head-turner sparked industry chatter over production drama before bombing out. He might show up in Mann’s ‘Heat 2‘ but that’s still up in the air.

Meanwhile, Hathaway’s been busy with Prime’s ‘The Idea of You‘ and ‘Mothers’ Instinct‘ with Chastain, plus that ‘Princess Diaries 3‘ return in the works. Strong’s still in theaters as Cohn in “The Apprentice” riding high after wrapping his killer run as Kendall in ‘Succession‘ last year.
