Morena Baccarin Jokes About Vanessa Having ‘Small’ Part In ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

The actress explains why her character has such little screen time in the third film.

Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa Carlysle played a major role as Wade Wilson’s girlfriend in 2016’s ‘Deadpool,’ but her appearances shortened in later movies. ‘Deadpool 2’ opened with her death, and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ shifted its attention to the Multiverse rather than the two’s romance.

Baccarin talked about her limited role in the newest film during an interview on The Playlist’s ‘The Discourse’ podcast, joking, “Yeah, I was hardly onset. That was the big difference.”

She then continued, “No, I’m kidding. It was a huge film in general. You know, Marvel is a big studio and they do things a certain way. So it did feel very different from [the others]. I mean, you have to remember the first film was essentially an independent, big-budget film, relatively speaking. But not at the scale of what it is now. And we were making this film that was a little odd – like it was our sense of humor, but are other people going to think it’s funny? So it felt very, very different and very indie at the time, actually.”

Vanessa appeared as the shapeshifting mutant Copycat in the Marvel comics and was expected to show up as such in the live-action films. Early plans for ‘Deadpool 2’ included this idea, as well, but Baccarin has not yet appeared as the mutant.

She’s ready for the role, though, saying to ComicBook, “I’ve only been waiting like five years. I’m not getting any younger or skinnier, so now’s the time.”

The actress is currently busy promoting her latest movie, ‘Elevation,’ alongside another Marvel star, Anthony Mackie. The action thriller hit the theaters on November 8.
