Ben Mendelsohn had previously stated that his ‘Star Wars’ villain, Orson Krennic, would not return in ‘Star Wars: Andor’ Season 2. However, this claim turned out to be untrue.
On February 12, Mendelsohn said, “As for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no, I have not been approached for something like this. And yes, it would be great to see him again somewhere, but for now everything stops here. But as far as I’m concerned, I would be very willing to explore it further and significantly in that world. I never expected to play a character like that, but then again I never expected to become an actor either. For me they are all wonderful things.”
Empire’s article on about ‘Andor’ Season 2 revealed Krennic’s storyline, highlighting his role as both a key figure Cassian Andor follows and a rival to one of the show’s main antagonists, Lieutenant Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) of the Imperial Security Bureau. At the end of Season 1, Meero narrowly survived the civil uprising on Ferrix, Cassian’s adopted home planet, thanks to disgraced Imperial officer Syril Karn (Kyle Soller). Intelligent and calculating, Meero was among the first Imperial officers to recognize the emergence of a well-organized rebellion forming under the Empire’s rule.
The returning cast for Season 2 includes Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Fiona Shaw as Maarva, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha, and Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz. For the new season, Ben Mendelsohn reprises his role as Orson Krennic from ‘Rogue One’, while Alan Tudyk returns as K-2SO, the droid from the movie.
‘Star Wars: Andor’ Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ starting April 22. The season will consist of 12 episodes spanning four in-universe years.
