Jeremy Renner ended up getting crushed under a snowplow while trying to save his nephew in early 2023. He broke over 30 bones, underwent surgery, and spent most of the year recovering.
The Hawkeye actor’s ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ co-star, Michael Beach, revealed new details about the accident and the injuries in a recent chat with The Direct:
“Jeremy is a war horse, man. I mean that guy, you know, he broke 38 bones. He actually died, which I didn’t know until he told me, and he’s been coming back. And he says he wasn’t sure how it would be. But he was ready.”
Beach also commented on Renner’s condition since returning to the show:
“And he says every week, he feels stronger and stronger. And there’s been no interruption because of his physical abilities or not. He’s in it doing it. He’s great. Yeah, he’s a great guy, man. And he’s really as tough as nails.”
The Support He Received From His Co-Stars During Recovery
Jeremy Renner began filming ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 3 by late 2023, despite the severe injuries. He mentioned following a slow and relaxed pace in his work after the accident.
The actor also shared hope to reprise the Hawkeye role in a future project. He told Entertainment Tonight:
“I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”
Renner especially noted Robert Downey Jr.’s support during his recovery. He shared in a chat with People:
“We ended up having really great chats on FaceTime, like we were dating or something. He’s like, ‘Dude, the most important thing is you look good. I don’t care how you feel, as long as you look good, that’s all that matters.’ He’s like, ‘You’ve got to get back to do ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’ because we need to see what happens.’ His ways are very heartwarming.”
Jeremy Renner will be back on screen with the upcoming ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ episodes on June 2.
