Clark Gregg Explains Why He Was Nervous To Work With ‘Avengers’ Actors

He said it was scary to act with such famous stars.

Speaking to Collider alongside his ‘Thelma’ co-stars June Squibb and Fred Hechinger, Clark Gregg recently opened up about working with the cast of ‘The Avengers,’ sharing that he was pretty nervous before entering the set for the film.

Reflecting on his career, Gregg expressed how Agent Phil Coulson’s transition from a minor role to a central figure in Marvel was both exciting and nerve-wracking. According to the actor, he felt nervous every time he entered the set, and it reached a peak moment when he was to film his first scene for ‘The Avengers’:

“I feel like it happens every time. I felt all those same ways. Like, I don’t understand where the camera is or what I should be doing. And I think in all the stuff I did first, you see me looking to see where the little mark on the floor is a lot. But even after I had done some stuff, the day I was showing up for the first scene in ‘The Avengers,’ and it was gonna be this group of actors that I was in awe of, I was like, ‘I’m afraid I’m gonna open my mouth, and nothing’s gonna come out.'”

In the same interview, Squibb also discussed her transition from theater to film, recalling her nervousness during her first film, Woody Allen’s ‘Alice.’ As Gregg said, he also faced similar challenges moving from smaller film roles to major blockbusters.
