Green Lantern Actor Nolan North Says He’s Inspired By Ryan Reynolds’s Bromance With Rob McElhenney

He says his character’s friendship with The Flash is inspired by Reynolds and McElhenney’s real-life bromance.

Speaking to ComicBookMovie.com, Nolan North revealed that the real-life friendship between actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney inspired him for his latest role in ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One’ as Amazo.

In ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One,’ North portrays Amazo, an initially destructive force who later allies with The Flash. In the interview, he explained he was partially inspired by the friendship between Reynolds and McElhenney, likening it to the ‘bromance’ developed between Amazo and The Flash in the storyline:

“First of all, I’ve got to be honest with you; it’s hard to keep track sometimes. I had three characters in this. Green Lantern was one way, the homeless man you’re probably familiar with, and then Amazo. Of course, The Flash is such an integral part of this, and for him to join up and, as you said, become an ally… when you say ‘bromance,’ I think of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds and how their bromance got them over to Wrexham. It’s interesting, and I’m really curious to see how everyone else will take to that part of the story. Hopefully, they like it as much as I do and as you do.”

During the conversation, North fondly recalled his childhood love for the Justice League and the Super Friends TV series, which also influenced his approach to bringing these characters to life. He also discussed his cameo in the original Uncharted movie, teased the possibility of an ‘Uncharted 5,’ and mentioned his role as Superman in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.’ Additionally, North is set to voice characters in ‘Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas,‘ ‘If Only,‘ and ‘Hellraid.

When Did Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Became Friends?

Reynolds and McElhenney’s friendship began after the two bought the Welsh soccer team Wrexham FC. Speaking to People last year, McElhenney admitted:

“I consider him one of my closest friends, and I didn’t even know him three years ago.”

According to McElhenney, the two got pretty close after the purchase and had a chance to get to know each other better. As the actor said, even their families grew close together:

“Our families have grown incredibly close, and even though we live on opposite coasts, we feel like we’re right next to each other.”

‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One’ is released on January 9, 2024, where North lends his voice to both the android Amazo and Hal Jordan. Two more sequels are slated for release later in 2024 — ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two’ and ‘Part Three.’
