Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen Joins The Cast Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators’ New Show, ‘Death By Lightning’

Called ‘Death by Lightning,’ the show tells the true story of President James Garfield’s assassination.

As ScreenRant reports, Matthew Macfadyen of ‘Succession,’ is set to star in ‘Death by Lightning,’ the latest project from ‘Game of Thrones’ creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

‘Death by Lightning’ will depart from Westeros to 19th-century America, focusing on the assassination of President James Garfield. According to ScreenRant, it is set to air on Netflix.

The series is based on Candice Millard’s narrative nonfiction book ‘Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine, and the Murder of a President.’ It will tell the story of James Garfield’s presidency and his assassination by Charles Guiteau. Macfadyen will portray Guiteau, with Michael Shannon cast as President Garfield.

What is the Release Date of Netflix’s ‘Death By Lightning’?

‘Death By Lightning’s executive production roles are filled by Benioff, Weiss, and Bernie Caulfield. The series is part of a broader slate of projects by Benioff and Weiss, including the high-concept Netflix sci-fi show ‘3 Body Problem,‘ which is set to premiere on March 21, 2024. As of now, ‘Death by Lightning’ has yet to commence production.

Turning their attention to a moment in American history, Benioff and Weiss collaborate with Mike Makowsky, known for ‘Bad Education,’ who will serve as creator and showrunner. Matt Ross, with credits including ‘Captain Fantastic’ and ‘Gaslit,’ is on board to direct all episodes.

As for Macfadyen, he will star in ‘Deadpool 3‘ and the thriller ‘Holland, Michigan.
