Madame Web Director Explains Two Major Spider Man Characters Joining The Cast

Directed by S.J. Clarkson, the film is set to release on February 14, 2024, featuring Dakota Johnson as the lead.

In a recent conversation with ComicBookMovie.com’s Josh Wilding, ‘Madame Web’s director S.J. Clarkson revealed that the movie is set to introduce two characters from the Spider-Man lore, Ben and Mary Parker.

Wilding asked the director about her thought process while including these characters into ‘Madame Web’ and whether this may end up in a plot she’d like to revisit later. Clarkson responded:

“Madame Web was born in The Amazing Spider-Man comics. There isn’t a Madame Web comic yet, although I think there probably could be. There should be, yeah, let’s start petitioning for a Madame Web comic! I think that would be amazing. But, you know, I think it’s an homage and a nod of respect to where she’s come from.”

According to ‘Madame Web’s IMDb page, Adam Scott and Emma Roberts are cast as Ben and Mary Parker.

‘Madame Web’ Takes Place in a Standalone Universe

‘Madame Web’ introduces Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a New York paramedic who gains psychic abilities and embarks on a mission to protect three young women. Set in a standalone universe exploring Webb’s origin story, the film also stars Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced.

Although it was initially intended to feature a 1990s setting linked to Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, ‘Madame Web’ has since been altered to be in parallels with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting the film in 2003.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside Claire Parker, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless, the film has a more grounded approach compared to previous superhero films. Filming took place across Massachusetts and New York City, wrapping up before the end of last year.

Madame Web prepares to make its debut in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
