Maisie Williams On Returning To Doctor Who: ‘No One Asks Me’

Recently, the ‘Game Of Thrones’ actress opened up about the idea of coming back to the long-running sci-fi show as Ashildr for Ncuti Gatwa’s era as the Fifteenth Doctor.

Maisie Williams took on the role of Ashildr, a young Viking girl, in the ninth season of ‘Doctor Who,’ during Peter Capaldi’s time as the Twelfth Doctor. Having become immortal thanks to the Time Lord, her character joined the TARDIS team briefly and eventually left with Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald, who also defied death.

In an interview with Collider, Williams mentioned she’s open to returning to the show with Gatwa’s Doctor. Her comeback might not be possible until after Season 14, as it’s already set for release in May, but the actress is ready to reprise her role:

“I’d love to work with Ncuti; that would be so cool. I actually had never even [thought] about— People are always asking me about Arya, that no one asks me about Ashildr. So maybe! I would love that; yeah, that would be cool.”

How Can The Character Come Back?

The former Viking girl was last seen in the finale of Season 9, setting off on a space journey with Clara in their own TARDIS. Her immortality suggests she could reappear in ‘Doctor Who’ in the future, as she was alive even at the end of time and universe.

Although Clara mentioned plans to return to Gallifrey to face her death after their adventure, it’s possible to see the duo cross paths with the Doctor, especially since he recovered his memories of the Impossible Girl in ‘Twice Upon A Time.’

With Millie Gibson leaving her role as Ruby Sunday next season, the door is open for any number of possibilities. Still, with the fifteenth season currently in production, it looks like Williams might have to wait before Ashildr can return.
