Dakota Johnson Admits She Hasn’t Seen ‘Madame Web’ And Probably Won’t Watch It

The lead actress’ confession came in a recent interview about the underperforming Sony film.

Dakota Johnson recently shared that she hasn’t watched ‘Madame Web’ since its release last Wednesday. While some took her choice not to watch the film as indifference, the actress explained it in an interview with Magic FM. She first said:

“I haven’t actually seen the movie [Laughs]. I probably won’t…I don’t know when I’ll see it. Someday.”

Johnson went on to share that she sometimes chooses not to watch her own movies as a form of self-care. She described watching herself on screen as potentially triggering an ‘existential crisis.’

Rising Distaste For The New Spider-Verse Project

Still, the confession came at a time when ‘Madame Web’ was already facing a slew of negative feedback. The film has not been well-received by critics, evident from its 15% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, tying it with ‘Venom’ for the lowest score among MCU films.

Adding to the controversy, Johnson revealed that the film faced major script changes before it made it to the theaters. While this fact brought along more backlash to ‘Madame Web,’ another interview where the actress couldn’t name any of the Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland had led to doubts about her part in the Spider-Verse.

Johnson’s Previous Blunder About The Film

When asked to name the three films in a chat with MTV, Johnson humorously guessed:

“‘Spider-Man: Here He Comes,’ ‘Spider-Man: And He’s Back,’ ‘The Goblet of Spider-Man,’ and ‘Harry, Spider-Man, and the Goblet of Man.’”

While her mistake fueled another wave of criticism on social media, the film kept underperforming at the box office. Released on the same day, ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ left ‘Madame Web’ behind by making $14 million across North American theaters on its premiere date against the SSU offering’s domestic $6.1 million.
