Mark Wahlberg Is Finally Making ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ Movie: But Is He The Right Guy?

Mark Wahlberg has recently shared some promising news about the remake of the 1970s classic ‘The Six Million Dollar Man.’

In a recent interview on the red carpet for his movie ‘Arthur The King,’ Wahlberg gave some updates on the reboot. He mentioned that they have just managed to get back the rights to the series and expressed his eagerness to move forward with it.

About the new project, now titled ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man,’ Wahlberg said:

“We’ve got the rights again, we’re looking at making that movie – hopefully soon! Again, ticking clock. Thank God, it’s an older guy who they feel like has some real-life experience that makes it worth it for him to be the subject of this experiment.”

The original show, based on the novel ‘Cyborg’ by Martin Caidin, was a significant part of the 1970s TV landscape, with five seasons and several TV movies as well as a spin-off called ‘The Bionic Woman.’

Fans Are Not Happy With The News

A reboot of the series has been in talks for decades, with many names associated with it. But the announcement of Wahlberg’s possible involvement has received mixed reactions from the fanbase. Not everyone is convinced the ‘Planet Of The Ape’ actor is the best choice for the lead role.

Opinions on Reddit vary, with some users expressing support for the project moving forward with Wahlberg:

“I hope this happens ASAP. Wahlberg is in his 50s now, he’s going to age out of this in a minute. And I wonder will two movies be filmed back to back.”

Yet, others are less enthusiastic, with comments like:

“We can only dream. Wahlberg is a terrible choice to play Steve Austin.”

Wahlberg’s Acting And Age Are The Problem

Lee Majors was the one bringing the astronaut rebuilt with bionic parts after an accident to life in the ABC series. The talks about Wahlberg’s age compared to Majors when he took on the role has been the focus among fans, with one noting:

“Technically, he already aged out. Lee Majors was 34 when he was ‘The Six Million Dollar Man,’ and that show only lasted 4 years.”

Criticism has also been leveled at Wahlberg’s acting fit for the role. Suggesting an offbeat casting choice, someone remarked:

“Do it with Danny DeVito. I want to see Danny DeVito with cyborg upgrades to punch through walls and run 100mph. I mean, it surely doesn’t matter what you’re starting with when everything is getting replaced or upgraded.”

Another person added:

“Now, that I would watch! Wahlberg, less so.”

While a comment read:

“Six million dollar man played by a six hundred dollar actor.”
