Jenna Ortega Promises ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Has Intense Horror Vibes Like ‘Carrie’

With scripts in hand, the actress is ready to bring back the Netflix show for another spooky season.

Before the shooting for the new season even begins, Jenna Ortega has hinted that fans should brace for a storyline richer in horror than the first season. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega revealed that the upcoming episodes will dive deeper into the supernatural, promising a fresh direction for the main characters.

The actress also mentioned that Season 2 would show more of Tim Burton’s influence in its visual storytelling. Sharing her thoughts on the ongoing influence of horror genre on the series, she said:

“In the first season, we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like ‘Prom Night,’ a little bit, or ‘Carrie.’ Every episode [of season two] that I’ve read so far is like that.”

Her words followed:

“It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky.”

More Horror And Action

After its successful first season in November 2022, Netflix announced the renewal of ‘Wednesday’ for a second season last year. Ortega hinted at a darker and more horror-focused approach for the upcoming episodes in a January 2024 chat.

Speaking at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards, the ‘Scream VI’ actress mentioned:

“We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror. It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.”

She also noted an increase in action:

“There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

While the exact release date for Season 2 remains up in the air, speculation is rife that Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, and Emma Myers might return to star alongside Ortega. The filming will kick off in Ireland in April.
