In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, actor Colman Domingo addressed ongoing speculation about potentially replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.
Known for his roles in ‘Fear The Walking Dead,’ ‘Euphoria,’ and ‘Rustin,’ Domingo has been rumored as a leading candidate to star as Kang. Despite the speculation, Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement regarding Majors’ replacement. Domingo himself expressed openness to the role but confirmed that he has not received direct communication from Marvel Studios about it.
“You know, listen. My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspects of the MCU for years. Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know. I feel like my team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real. So I don’t know. I could be in conversation, but I’m not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it.
Whatever they’re working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane, whatever that is. There’s hearsay, there’s conversations, but I’m not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something’s real. But I’d be down with it.”
He noted that his team has been in talks with Marvel about various MCU projects over the years, so, they may have a longstanding relationship with the studio.
The Jonathan Majors Controversy
Marvel Studios’ decision to recast Kang the Conqueror follows Majors’ legal issues, which include new abuse allegations from two ex-girlfriends and reports of intimidating behavior towards female crew members on the set of ‘Lovecraft Country.’ Majors has expressed regret over certain actions and remains hopeful despite the challenges ahead.
Majors, who had initially brought Kang the Conqueror to life in the MCU, faced legal and personal controversies that led to his exit from the franchise. These incidents have overshadowed his career, prompting Marvel Studios to seek a new actor for the role of Kang.
As the MCU moves forward without Majors, speculation about his replacement continues. Names such as John David Washington have been mentioned, though no official decision has been announced. Reports suggest that Marvel may have put recasting plans on hold, with no immediate updates expected.
