‘It’s For Children’: Harry Potter’s Professor Sprout Says Adult Fans Should Move On

She says the story was meant for kids, even though a new TV show is coming in 2026.

In a recent interview on TVNZ’s 1News, Miriam Margolyes shared her views on ‘Harry Potter’s adult fanbase, claiming it’s aimed at children and adult fans should have moved on by now.

Known for her role as Professor Sprout in the ‘Harry Potter’ film series, Margolyes expressed her concerns about adults who remain deeply interested in the Harry Potter universe:

“I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now. You know, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it. I do cameos, and people say, ‘I’m having a Harry Potter-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. Harry Potter is wonderful; I’m very grateful for it. It’s over. That’s what I think.”

With the ‘Harry Potter’ films being an important part of many people’s childhoods, Margolyes has a belief that there comes a time when fans should perhaps move on to other interests.

She Previously Said The Franchise Isn’t Important

Despite many of the HP cast having fond memories of the franchise, Margolyes previously stated that the series wasn’t ‘important’ for her, saying:

“It doesn’t mean as much to me as it does to them. For me, Harry Potter wasn’t important. I was very glad I got the part, and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

In another interview, she also said she ‘hates’ kids, so working on a set filled with them probably wasn’t that fun for her.

A New Harry Potter TV Series is On the Way

The franchise is about to expand further, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirming a 2026 debut for a new Harry Potter television series during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

The upcoming TV series offers a decade of new stories set in the Wizarding World. This initiative, according to Zaslav, is a collaborative effort with Rowling, who retains creative control and will serve as an executive producer to ensure the adaptation’s fidelity to the original material.

With the casting process still ahead and the involvement of potential showrunners like Francesca Gardiner being discussed, the new TV series is set to explore the original books over ten years on the Max streaming service. You can read the latest news about the show here.
