Mason Gooding Believes ‘Scream 7’ Not Dead Despite Melissa Barrera Firing, Just Needs The Right Cash

Though the ‘Scream 7’ production has been shaky in recent months, Gooding thinks there’s still hope for the movie.

The journey of ‘Scream 7’ has been anything but smooth, facing challenges like cast and director changes in the last few months. Despite these hurdles, Mason Gooding remains hopeful about the film’s future.

Talking to Variety at Vanity Fair and Instagram’s pre-Oscars Vanities party on Wednesday, the Chad Meeks-Martin actor shared:

“If it could make money, I guarantee you, they’ll make it.”

He noted that he’s not currently involved in the film’s planning stages, though:

“It’s one of those things where you wait to hear from the people that make the big decisions.”

It’s All For Fans, He Says

The film faced a major issue last November when Melissa Barrera was let go due to controversy over her social media comments about Israel-Hamas conflict, which Spyglass Media Group viewed as anti-Semitic.

Before Barrera’s exit, there was already work being done on revamping the script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, aiming to possibly bring back series veterans like Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey.

Commenting on the plans, Gooding said:

“It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they…If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”

The Film Lost Some Crew Members

Following Barrera’s exit, Jenna Ortega announced she couldn’t return to the franchise due to scheduling conflicts with ‘Wednesday.’ A month later, director Christopher Landon confirmed his departure on X by writing:

“I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited ‘Scream 7’ weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

Ortega is currently working on her Netflix show’s second season while ‘Scream 7’s new director remains unknown.
