Sydney Sweeney Admits Hosting SNL Was A ‘Terrifying’ Experience

‘Saturday Night Live’ was a big challenge for Sydney Sweeney.

During a Q&A panel at SXSW on March 12, 2024, Sydney Sweeney recently opened up about her experience hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL), describing it as ‘terrifying.’

At SXSW, where she was promoting her latest horror film, ‘Immaculate,’ Sweeney shared her feelings about stepping out of her comfort zone:

“It’s good to face fears.”

Despite her fear of SNL’s live television format, which added to Sweeney’s nervousness, the actress admitted she actually wanted to confront what scared her:

“I knew I would be terrified, [but] I wanted to do it. I think it’s important to do things that scare you. The whole entire ‘SNL’ experience; it was a challenge — it was terrifying.”

Sweeney Took a Jab at ‘Madame Web’ At SNL

Sweeney’s SNL appearance included a range of sketches: she appeared as a waitress at Hooters, interacted with her ‘Anyone But You’ co-star Glen Powell in a humorous cameo, and even engaged in unlikely scenarios with characters like Air Bud and SNL’s own Bowen Yang.

In her monologue, Sweeney addressed rumors, her acting roles, and her initial plans for Hollywood success, all while joking about her non-appearance in the movie ‘Madame Web:’

“You might have seen me in ‘Anyone But You’ or ‘Euphoria.’ You definitely did not see me in ‘Madame Web.'”

The actress credited projects like ‘Sharp Objects’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ with taking her from supporting roles to leading status. She also promoted her recent work, ‘Immaculate,’ a psychological horror film where she plays a nun in a haunted convent, set to open in theaters on March 22.

Although Sony endorsed Sweeney’s humorous approach to ‘Madame Web’s reception, they recently put public blame on co-star Dakota Johnson for the film’s failure. You can read the details here.
