Nicolas Cage Is Officially In Talks To Join Spider-Man Noir Live-Action Series

The actor, who voiced the character in 2018’s ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,’ might be making a comeback.

Though Nicolas Cage didn’t return to voice Spider-Man Noir in the sequel, ‘Across The Spider-Verse,’ a recent chat with Collider at SXSW 2024 suggests he’s not done with the role yet. Cage shared his excitement about possibly returning to the character:

“Well, I can say that we have been talking. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece.”

He also gave some insight into how he views Noir, saying:

“I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing’s definitive yet. It’s just conversation.”

Amazon’s Plans For The Spider-Verse

This news comes alongside announcements that Prime Video’s ‘Spider-Man Noir’ live-action series will be led by Steve Lightfoot as showrunner. Rumors have been circulating that Cage might play the character on screen, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller producing the show written by Orien Uziel.

The series will dive into the Marvel Noir universe, portraying a darker version of Spider-Man who fights crime in New York during the Great Depression. This narrative departs from the typical Peter Parker storyline, focusing instead on the 1930s.

The potential involvement of Cage in the series is part of a larger deal between Amazon and Sony to create a series of Spider-Man spinoffs for Prime Video. The first announced project, ‘Silk: Spider Society,’ has faced some challenges in its development, but remains in the works.
