Obama Turned Down Cameo Offer From Game Of Thrones Creators For ‘3 Body Problem’

Former US President won’t be making a cameo in Netflix’s upcoming series, despite the filmmakers’ wishes.

Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently mentioned that Barack Obama turned down the chance to appear in ‘3 Body Problem,’ a series about an alien invasion of Earth. They shared that he politely rejected their offer but in a humorous way.

In a chat with USA Today, Benioff said:

“[Obama] did sign a very funny note though, when we tried to get him for a cameo. It was to the effect of, ‘In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for that crisis.’ He wants to keep his powder dry in case there’s a real thing.”

The President Has Been A Fan

Barack Obama previously revealed his love for Chinese writer Liu Cixin’s ‘The Three-Body Problem’ to The New York Times. In 2017, the ex-President explained that he used the sci-fi book the new series is inspired by to escape from the pressures of his job:

“The scope of it was immense. So that was fun to read. Partly because my day-to-day problems with Congress seem fairly petty — not something to worry about. Aliens are about to invade!”

Obama was also a fan of ‘Game Of Thrones’ to the point of getting early screenings of episodes while he was President.

What Do We Know About The New Project?

The upcoming ‘3 Body Problem’ series, written and produced by Benioff, Weiss, and Alexander Woo, is set to premiere at South by Southwest and will be available on Netflix soon after.

Netflix’s last trailer for the show, released on March 7, shows a cast that includes ‘Game Of Thrones’ actors like Liam Cunningham, John Bradley, and Jonathan Pryce.

‘3 Body Problem,’ coming out on March 21, follows a group of physicists as they face an alien invasion threat. Benedict Wong leads the series along with names like Eiza González, Jovan Adepo, Alex Sharp, and Jess Hong.
